Frequently Asked Questions

If you don’t see what you need below, please contact us directly and we will help.

What does it feel like when getting into a hyperbaric oxygen chamber?

When getting into a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, you may experience a sensation similar to being in an airplane during takeoff or landing. This is due to the changes in air pressure within the chamber. Your ears might feel a bit of pressure, which can be alleviated by yawning or swallowing.

Once the chamber reaches the desired pressure, you should feel comfortable and relaxed. The environment inside the chamber is designed to be cozy, and you can often read, listen to music, or even take a nap during the session.

How many sessions should I consider?

Session frequency depends on your goals, individual circumstances, screening information, the equipment protocol and any advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Solid O2 can explain general session and package options, but does not prescribe a number of sessions to diagnose or treat a medical condition. New clients should complete the required screening, and medical or complex questions should be referred through an appropriate professional pathway. Individual experiences vary and results cannot be guaranteed.

Is there an age limit for MedHBOT sessions?

Suitability cannot be determined by age alone and differs between individuals. Children, older adults and clients who need assistance require appropriate screening, supervision and support for their circumstances. Relevant medical conditions, medication, mobility concerns and previous ear or sinus problems should be disclosed before a session. When suitability is unclear, obtain guidance from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Can I order a chamber for home use instead of always booking sessions?

Yes, you can order a hyperbaric oxygen chamber for home use. Our chambers are available for purchase and come with local warranties and repair services. We also provide delivery, setup and operator training to support use according to the manufacturer’s instructions and Solid O2 procedures.

Our hyperbaric oxygen chambers range from R225k to R255k, depending on the type and specifications. For more detailed information about our chambers and to explore the options available, you can visit our oxygen chamber page.

What should I know about medical conditions and hyperbaric research?

Research has explored clinical hyperbaric oxygen therapy in relation to wound care, selected infections, carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression illness, neurological rehabilitation and other medical topics. Clinical findings depend on the condition, protocol, pressure, oxygen-delivery method and medical setting.

This information is educational and does not mean that Solid O2 sites diagnose or treat these conditions. Solid O2 MedHBOT sessions are not the same as hospital HBOT, and outcomes from clinical HBOT research should not be assumed to apply across different equipment or protocols.

Urgent surgical complications, compromised grafts or flaps, serious infections, carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression illness and paediatric emergencies must be assessed and managed through an appropriately equipped hospital facility. Clients should discuss medical conditions and treatment decisions with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Are there any dangers associated with using a hyperbaric chamber?

Hyperbaric environments are not risk-free. The risk profile depends on the individual, chamber design, operating pressure, oxygen-delivery method, session protocol and level of supervision. Ear or sinus pressure discomfort can occur, and some medical conditions may require additional assessment or make participation unsuitable.

Sessions should be conducted according to the manufacturer’s instructions, Solid O2 procedures and appropriate client screening. Lower operating pressure does not mean that risks or legal obligations disappear. Clients should disclose relevant medical conditions, medication and concerns before participating and seek guidance from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional when suitability is uncertain.

How do chamber pressure and oxygen delivery work?

A Solid O2 MedHBOT chamber is pressurised with filtered ambient air while an oxygen concentrator supplies concentrated oxygen to the occupant through a mask. The pressure, oxygen concentration and approved session protocol depend on the equipment and operating setup. Individual responses vary. Research findings from hospital-based clinical HBOT should not be assumed to demonstrate equivalent outcomes for Solid O2 MedHBOT sessions or equipment using different pressures and oxygen-delivery methods.

Can Solid O2 help me plan future sessions?

Yes. A Solid O2 consultation can help you understand the equipment, session process, screening requirements and general package options in relation to your wellness or recovery goals. Solid O2 does not diagnose conditions, prescribe medical treatment or guarantee outcomes. Medical questions and decisions about treating a condition should be discussed with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
